Hungarian Cultural Center of Northeastern Ohio

The Center was formed in 2001 with the merger of the Geauga Magyar Cultural Society and the St Stephen’s Dramatic Club.  The Mission Statement is “to promote the Hungarian American culture, social and educational customs and traditions of our heritage.”  The Center’s picnic grounds and pavilion are located on 40 acres along the scenic Cuyahoga River in Portage County, Ohio. In 2006 an authentic, hand carved Szekely Kapu was built by Adorjani Gergely, a master craftsman from Transylvania, to grace the entrance to the property. The Center publishes a monthly newsletter, hosts a website (www.hungarianclub.com), published a cookbook, now in its fourth printing, shares its events with other groups i.e.. Buckeye Road Reunion, St. Margaret’s of Hungary Reunion, William Penn Association, and the Hungarian Scouting Association. In addition, many weddings and reunions of club member’s families are celebrated there. The Center supports, hosts and participates in many multicultural activities and organizations both in the United States, Canada and Hungary. With the organization’s membership over 400, including many second, third and fourth generations of Hungarian descent and non-Hungarians as well, it will continue to strengthen furthering of our Hungarian traditions, our outreach and continued contributions to the Greater Hungarian community.
